She wore the same blessing dress that I wore. My maternal grandmother made the dress. Also, Rose was blessed in the same church that I was blessed in, and with some of the same men standing in the circle. Pretty cool!

Rosaline Diana Knox

We're happy to announce the arrival of our little Rose. She was born early on a Saturday (6/6/09) morning and except for a little drama, she came through perfectly healthy. Rose had the cord wrapped around her neck and body a couple of times, so every time she moved, she clamped down on the cord and cut off her air supply. We had a fantastic doctor, nurse, and staff that all helped us pull through okay. I am grateful to report that Rose sleeps in longer patterns than her other siblings and she is eating so much better than they did too. We are very happy with her. Henry just loves her and will hold her and give her kisses.

She isn't without her tantrums, but thanks to gifts from others, she looks stylish while she's screaming. (A practice all women should employ).

Dance Recital 2009

Kate performed at her dance recital this weekend. This is her 3rd year and she did a really nice job. She will continue next year, but only in tap. We are trying to keep our schedules streamlined, so in order for Henry to begin gymnastics in the fall, Kate is scaling back to one sport and one instrument.

Kate enjoyed her birthday last week. She turned 11. She is a HUGE help around the house and we are glad that she is a useful child and not a bratty tween. She truly meets her nickname: Kate the Great!

Catching Up!

Somehow 6 months flew by and I am just now updating the blog. Since our last post we have enjoyed trips to Kentucky, Nevada, and California. I've been to New York on business too. Now we are settling in nicely for the longer winter and don't have any trips planned for some time.

Our big news, that everyone already knows is that we are expecting a baby in early June. We have named her Roseline, sticking to our Shakespearean pattern. Kate is thrilled and Henry hasn't a clue. We thought he was starting to understand when he would yell into my belly "Hello Roseline!", but then he walked over to Dave and yelled at his belly too. Dave is now on a diet.

Missing Kate

Well, Henry is looking for his beach buddy Kate. He will be really happy to see her again. He has done his best to mess up her room and play with her toys. He has ruined only one lip gloss, but he sure looked pretty! There are only a few short weeks of summer left, then Kate will be back.

We understand that Kate hasn't missed us very much at all. She is quite busy being the socialite of Las Vegas. She has enjoyed many swimming days, movies, shopping, camp-outs, and dinners out. I fear she will find East Lansing boring compared to her summer adventures, but we will try to keep her as engaged.

Thanks to all of you who have been taking good care of her.

Knox Family Reunion

Hays Kansas may never be the same.

We spent July 4th at a family reunion with Dave's side of the family. It was the first time we had all come together without anyone missing since 2003. Kristie (sister-in-law) and her extended family were very gracious hosts and we all had comfortable places to stay. Henry did alright over the 2300 mile round trip, but at the end of each driving day he would scream "I'm all done, I'm all done!"

Hays, like other small American towns, has great spirit. The town is full of very friendly people who all seem to know each other, or at least someone who knows someone. The community aquatic center is really awesome and we had great fun swimming, playing in the lazy river and racing down the waterslides. We also enjoyed a western-style carnival and concert tour during the holiday. The fireworks display was spectacular and could compete with larger cities. That was a lot of fun. Henry however did not enjoy the display and burried his face in the blanket until he fell asleep. On the way home Dave and I stopped at Hannibal, MO and looked around all of the Huck Finn and tom Sawyer sites. Kate made her way farther west with the Knox/Robinson cousins and later flew to Las Vegas to join the Abbotts. Now, back at the office and even at home, things seem much quieter. All is well.

An Ever Fixed Mark

Dave and I celebrated 11 years together, Dave reports that 7 of them were happy...
At any rate, we went to dinner and a movie and tried not to talk about business (because we are both in the same business) and tried not to talk about the kids. We enjoyed a lovely evening.

At such times (anniversaries) one reflects on the many years and considers how time was spent. How do you measure such a thing? In numbers: 11 years, 2 kids, 10 years of education, 3 degrees, 4 states called home, 10 mentally disabled men, 1900 miles from home, I could go on. In accomplishments: happy marriage, healthy kids, passing the bar exam, excellent travels, many friends, great and satisfying professions. In feelings: content, comfortable, assured, seeking next adventure...

Best wishes to all of you. Shakespeare said it best in a sonnet and David recently reminded me with a couple dozen roses:

Love is not love which alters when it alteration finds

For the longest time, Dave & I have resisted blogging just on principle. Two English Literature buffs reject the electronic age with its immediate gratification and shorthand. SUP, my BFF Jacque is prego. L8R. Rather we embrace the elegant poetic iambic pentameter written on parchment with calligraphy. Timeless and artful.

Surely the hype curve of blogging would die down and fade away; something like disco. Alas, we have come to realize is that there is a point where the electronic age, hype, and mainstream meet and here we are. Now-a-days, I keep a shorthand dictionary next to my desk at work, so that I can understand the younger staff. I hear general authorities mention blogs over the pulpit. I find myself LMHO at my children. The world is changing...are you ready?
